Un Ocha Meeting Begins In Istanbul

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 27.04.2006 - The second meeting of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) began in Turkish metropolis of Istanbul today.

Delegates from 11 countries, including Turkey, participated in the meeting organized by the Turkish Crisis Management DG and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Holding a press conference, Hasan Ipek, the head of Turkish Crisis Management DG, said that participants will discuss what kind of a method will be pursued from now on when collecting and distributing international humanitarian aid.

Ipek noted that an international emergency aid fund will be set up under the auspices of the UN, and added, "we will set up a fund of 500 million USD, and use this fund in case of emergency and disasters. 250 million USD has been allocated for this fund so far."
